Project Details

The project involved creating a comprehensive 2D orthophoto mosaic for an area covered by aerial imagery. The goal was to correct and refine the automatically generated mosaic to ensure accurate and seamless representation of the landscape, including the handling of various types of distortions and overlaps.

Client: The leader of the Polish ALS and LiDAR market.

Sector:

  • Geospatial Analysis
  • Image Processing

Sub Sector:

  • Photogrammetry
  • Orthophoto Mosaicking

Services:

  • 2D 3D Mapping
  • 2D Orthophoto Mosaicking
  • Photogrammetry
  • Image Correction
  • Geospatial Data Processing
  • Photo Editing

Solution:

  • Creation of a detailed 2D orthophoto mosaic for accurate aerial imagery representation
  • Correction of mosaic lines to prevent incorrect overlaps, such as building edges, bridge edges, and infrastructure objects
  • Adjustment for moving objects and their shadows, including cars, pedestrians, and bicycles
  • Ensuring sufficient overlap between aerial images to maintain continuity
  • Correction of distortions in bridges, buildings, and tracks using PhotoShop

Location: Poland

Technology and Software:
QGIS: Used for geospatial data processing and mosaic creation.

PhotoShop: Utilized for correcting visual distortions and ensuring the accuracy of the final orthophoto mosaic.

People:
A team of GisPoint specialists with many years of experience in the field of geographic information systems and image processing was responsible for the implementation of this project. Our employees applied their knowledge and skills to ensure high accuracy and quality of the final result. Each step, from data collection to final processing, was performed with the utmost care to meet all client requirements.

Process & Challenges

Process:

Data Collection: Aerial imagery was collected and prepared for processing.

Mosaic Creation: Initial orthophoto mosaic was generated from the collected imagery.

Correction: Automated lines in the mosaic were corrected to address issues with building edges, bridge edges, moving objects, and infrastructure.

Overlap Adjustment: Ensured adequate overlap between images to maintain continuity.

Distortion Fixing: Used PhotoShop to correct distortions in images, such as those affecting bridges, buildings, and tracks.

Final Review: Conducted a final review to ensure the accuracy and quality of the orthophoto mosaic.

Challenges:

During the project implementation, the team faced the following challenges:

Correction of mosaic lines: Ensuring accurate correction of automatic mosaic lines to prevent errors on the edges of buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure.

Processing of moving objects: Addresses issues with moving objects and their shadows that can prevent images from being stitched together correctly.

Image overlap: Ensures proper overlap between images to maintain continuity and avoid tearing in the mosaic.

Distortion correction: Correcting distortions of bridges, buildings, and roads to ensure that the final mosaic accurately reflects the geographic area.

Image editing: Using PhotoShop to correct visual distortions and inaccuracies in the orthophoto mosaic.

Result

The project successfully produced a high-quality 2D orthophoto mosaic that accurately represents the surveyed area. All corrections were applied to address overlaps, distortions, and moving objects, resulting in a seamless and detailed orthophoto.
