Project Details

Our Czech partners ordered the creation of a detailed 2D vector map for the city of Prostejov. The project included the mapping of communication lines, sidewalks, bike paths, parking lots, as well as road signs with their location and rotation. All vectorised objects received attribute information reflecting the state of the road network.

Client: A geodetic and engineering company specializing in surveying, property management, and geospatial solutions.

Sector:

  • Geospatial Analysis
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Sub Sector:

  • Cartography
  • Urban Infrastructure Mapping
  • Municipal Infrastructure

Services:

  • 2D Vector Mapping
  • Geospatial Analysis
  • Image Processing
  • Attribute Data Integration
  • Signage Mapping

Solution:

  • Creation of a detailed 2D vector map for Prostejov
  • Vectorization of communication lines, sidewalks, bike paths, and parking areas
  • Accurate placement and documentation of road signs
  • Integration of orientation and attribute data for road signs
  • Utilization of high-precision ortho-photo plans and panoramic photo data

Location:  Czech Republic

Technology and Software:
QGIS software was the main tool for processing and creating the map. QGIS allows you to work efficiently with spatial data, ensuring its accurate processing and visualization. Thanks to this tool, our team achieved a high level of detail and quality of the result.

People:
GisPoint GIS specialists dedicated 2 months to this project, using QGIS software to ensure the accuracy and quality of the map.

Process & Challenges

Process:
The initial data were orthophoto plans with an accuracy of 5 cm and panoramic photographs. Using this data, our QGIS team vectorised various elements of the road infrastructure, including utilities, sidewalks, bicycle lanes and car parks. We also added information about road signs, including their location and orientation.

Challenges:
GisPoint and our specialists faced a number of serious challenges during the implementation of this project. The high demands on the accuracy and volume of data processing required a thorough approach and professionalism. Here are the main challenges we faced:

  • Vectorisation accuracy: Ensure accurate vectorisation of utilities, sidewalks, bike paths and car parks using high-precision orthophoto plans and panoramic imagery.
  • Processing of various types of data: Integrate and process data from orthophoto plans and panoramic images to create a single vector representation.
  • Road signage: Placement of road signs taking into account their rotation (horizontal, vertical, panel) and accurate display of their attribute information.
  • Attribute information: Filling in the attribute information for all vectorised objects, including the state of the road network, and ensuring that it is correct and up-to-date.
  • Data coordination: Managing a large amount of data and ensuring its consistency for correct map display.
  • Data complexity: Organising and correcting data to avoid errors such as duplicate or missing features.

Result

The project was successfully completed and resulted in a 2D map of the city of Prostejov, which contains all the necessary elements of road infrastructure and attribute information. Photographs of all road signs were also taken and data on their condition was filled in.
