Project Details

The project involved updating an existing topographic database using orthophotomaps over an area of 17,000 km². The objective was to ensure the database’s accuracy and relevance by checking the current topographic objects and creating new entries as needed. This data was vital for supporting urban planning, infrastructure development, and municipal geospatial portals.

Client: A county administrative department specializing in geodesy and property management.

Sector: Geospatial Analysis

Sub Sector:

  • Cartography
  • Topographic Mapping

Services:

  • Geodata Processing
  • Database Update
  • Geometric Correction
  • Attribute Table Enhancement
  • Topology Checks

Solution:

  • Used orthophotographs to update topographic objects
  • Verified accuracy of existing database entries
  • Added new topographic objects as needed
  • Corrected object geometry
  • Updated attribute information
    Performed topological checks

Location: Poland

Technology and Software: The project used ArcGIS for processing orthophotographs, verifying and updating topographic features, and performing geometric corrections.

People: The project was executed by a dedicated team from GIS-Point, including 8 cartographers, quality controllers, and a project manager. Prior to the project commencement, the client was provided with comprehensive training on the processing technology and project specifics to ensure a smooth workflow and accurate results.

Process & Challenges

Process: The project began with leveraging orthophotographs to assess and update the existing topographic database. Our team meticulously verified the accuracy of current topographic features, correcting any discrepancies by adding new objects where gaps were identified. Geometric adjustments were made to ensure all features met contemporary mapping standards, thereby improving spatial accuracy. The attribute table was thoroughly updated with detailed information on object types, materials, and other relevant attributes. We conducted comprehensive topological checks to address and resolve any issues related to object overlap or gaps, ensuring data consistency and integrity. Throughout the process, close coordination was maintained with the client, facilitating a smooth and efficient project execution. Finally, all updates were carefully integrated into the database, enhancing its reliability and usability for various applications.

Challenges: The highly specialized nature of the maps required careful attention to specific mapping characteristics, ensuring that all updates were accurate and reflected the real-world environment.

Result

The topographic database was successfully updated, enhancing its utility for urban planning, infrastructure development, and other applications. The project was completed efficiently, with minimal time spent resolving topological issues.
